REG ANSETT & WINDSOCKS. FUEL SALES ON THE CREEK

Reg Ansett was an icon in Australian Aviation.

He lived at Mornington and travelled to and from work by helicopter most days in the early 1970s. This was known by all locals who viewed his copter following the shoreline.

His pilot needed wind guidance and approached Peter Allnutt to install a windsock for guidance. It was installed at expense of ANA and used for many years. The sock is visible in these two photos.

Fuel Bowsers were put in place by BP with Allnutts but it was not a successful venture. Fuel purchase price was the same for Allnutts as Service Station sale prices and support was not forthcoming from boat users. Also, the risk of fire was a problem and the service was discontinued.

The pumps and tanks were removed with underground remediation some years later with the assistance of former MMYC Commodore Jack Vievers, a BP senior executive.
