Vale Peter Allnutt

Published Sat 30 Apr 2022

Dear Members,

It is with a heavy heart that I write to inform you of the sad news that Peter Allnutt passed away on Friday, 29th April 2022.

Peter had been battling a disease in private meaning most of you would be unaware that he was very ill.

Thanks to Wayne Imlach I was able to meet with Peter recently and wish him all the best and at that time he was positive and in good spirits even though he was up against it.

Before the majority of us were even born Peter had already clocked up many years as a member of the MMYC and is our longest serving member. It was just recently he was recognised with his 75 year membership and service badge at a private gathering.

We have lost a true legend of the creek and broader Mordialloc community and of course pass on our deepest condolences to his immediate and extended family.

In respect, our Club flag will fly with the Australian flag at half mast.

Please see below a brief snapshot of Peter’s involvement in the local water based sporting clubs.

Peter Joined MMYC in 1945 as a cadet member at the age of 10.

In 1946 after the founding of The 12 Square Metre Sailing Club, Peter and his brother John joined the sailing club along with father David Allnutt.

The attached photo is of the first club picnic which was held in a Park at Warrandyte.

In May 1957 Peter joined The Mordialloc Boat Owners club. MBO. He was appointed as slipway master on the 3 September 1957 narrowly beating Jack Pompei in a ballot by pencil and paper.

By 1962 with heavy work commitments Peter resigned from the role and Jack Pompei took up the role as slipway master.

In 1967 Peter was once again appointed as slipway master and keeping an eye on all boats in moorings for the sum of $80 per annum.

Peter was also a member of Sandringham Yacht Club for over 40 years.

RIP Peter

You will be sorely missed but never forgotten.
