TRIVIA NIGHT 2022

TRIVIA NIGHT 2022  Sat 4th June

The MMYC inaugural Trivia Night was a noisy affair with participants in high spirits. Fifty hardy souls braved the chilly Melbourne evening to settle in upstairs in front of a roaring fire, with Mario doing a splendid job as Keeper of the Flame. Stuart did his usual sterling job as Mine Host, ensuring everyone was able to get what they needed to keep out the cold. Many thanks to Stuart for that.

There were 10 teams competing for the perpetual MMYC Trivia Crown and Trophy. Although some teams were somewhat depleted through illness, competition was fierce with team members surprising themselves with their depth and breadth of knowledge. Dougal managed to cope with a few technical issues to present the questions, including audio and visual ones, thanks to Michael’s technical expertise.

A few games were interspersed to enable those less well versed in trivia to accumulate a few points. Team Piano Bar, led by Mario, won the Chupa Chup game. Team Off to England comprising Bob, Lynne, Sandra and Wayne won the up and down challenge, while the Aspendale Allstars comprising the Riordans and friends amazed everyone with their paper plane prowess. Clearly there was an aeronautical engineer on their team.

Sue Halliwell showed remarkable accuracy with the coin toss, winning the bottle of Baileys after some hotly contested competition, which she generously shared with some other lucky ones. Yum!

Team Mojo Champions of Sue Halliwell, Melinda Johanson and Terry, Judy and Rowland Jubb were the final champions, amazing us with their breadth and depth of knowledge of trivia. The Aspendale Allstars of Deirdre and Peter Riordan, Helen and Noel Tancheff, Scott Chandler, Bernie Ficurilli, Donna Chandler and Ezio Ficurilli came second, with the Red Red Wine team coming in as the wooden spooners. Perhaps their name is a clue as to their last place. But they certainly seemed to be having a wonderful time. That team comprised Ursula Good, Franciscus Boekel, Mark and Debbie Barklay, and Jeanette Jenson.

All in all, everyone seemed to have a fun, and noisy night, while raising funds for our Club. Thanks as usual to those members and friends who helped with set up – Kaye, Michael, and Greg, the latter who also set that wonderful fire. Much appreciation also to those who stayed behind to help clear up – Mario and Lorraine, Kaye, Michael, and some others who I hope will forgive me for not mentioning.

Next up, the Hawaiian luau. More details to follow.
