Open Mike Night Friday 30 September 2022

Published Thu 06 Oct 2022

After a long hiatus, courtesy of Melbourne’s record long lockdowns, the Open Mike night returned. The Sutton lounge was positively jumping, and celebrations went on into the early hours of the morning, with guests dancing and enjoying the talent. A large crowd attended so the Sutton lounge was filled to capacity.

There were many and varied acts, with Club members showing a wide range of skills and talents.

The night started with Lyndon and Mark singing and playing guitar. At one stage, Lyndon was sounding very like Bob Dylan. Other acts included Deidre, Kathy and Mandy who played ukuleles and sang, Helen (ukulele) and Michael, (saxophone) with support from Stuart on guitar, Carolyn sang and Noel (channelling Fred Dagg) played ukulele, the other Noel played a beautiful rendition of Moon River on cornet, Lincoln sang and played guitar, and Neil’s lovely Caroline read her moving poem, which was a hit with the audience. Peter delighted us with his banjo, not to mention his entertaining soliloquy.

Steve Beashel was a wonderful MC, or perhaps Ringmaster is a more appropriate title (!) while Stuart, Sue and Geoff looked after us with liquid refreshments, working very hard to serve the crowd. Many thanks also to Gerry and Clare who helped with the food preparation and serving.

Last but not least, many thanks to Peter Banham for organising such a fabulous night.
