Wayne's Woes

January 19, 2012

The plan had apparently been brewing for a couple of weeks. MMYC vessel Wet & Wiid was going to break with tradition  - and leave local waters! The idea was that skipper Wayne and (safety-thong) Rob in his new boat, would take a day trip up the Yarra and maybe beyond. It was all planned for Monday January 16th.

The weather on the day was far from ideal, with a stiff southerly blowing up the bay. But a plan was a plan and the guys were determined to go. The first obsticle was that, try as he may, Rob couldn't start his engine. Expert advice was called in and now an hour and a half behind schedule the boat was finally running. Out on the bay the weather had blown up even more - but determined as ever, the two boats were farewelled by a number of members who'd gathered on the Island.

About 30 minutes later couple of those who's seen them go, Des and Liz, decided that it may be a good idea just to check that the two guys were travelling well and headed out on JayJay II. All going well, by now they'd probably even be way out of sight.

But not far into the trip towards Rickett's Point, the boats could be seen stationary. On reaching the spot where they were bobbing about in the choppy water, Wayne could be seen down in the engine bay and the news wasn't good. The trip would have to be abandoned. There was nothing else for it but for a tow rope to be thrown and they all headed back to the club with Wayne settled back on the bow.

Reports on Wet & Wild's engine is that there was no major damage but we've not heard if a 2nd attempt at the expedition has been discussed ?
