Helping Hand for our Creek
Prior to the speeches the crowd were entertained by a Jazz Band with MMYC's Gordon on drums, while another well known member turned up dressed as King Neptune. The Master of Ceromonies for the event was of course Peter Banham. Peter Allnutt as well as John Pompei took us back to the early days when the creek was deep and clear and we heard how over the years the water quality and creek environment has deteriorated due to neglect and indifference from a number of authorities and governments.
All those attending were urged to sign the petitions provided and to keep up the fight by putting pressure on their local members of government. MCC's organisers were left feeling that staging the event was well worth the effort but of course this is just the beginning. Now that awarness of the problem has been raised, organizing a solution and maintaining a healthier creek is something that everyone in the communitee needs to be involved in.
