CSC Winter Series Report

We had six MMYC boats go down to Carrum on Sunday for the race start where there were four Carrum boats as well.  Initially we had a light to moderate west wind with a lumpy sea.  The ten boat start was very hectic with most of the boats bunched up. Nine out of the ten headed out to the windward mark on starboard tack but DaVinci headed off on a port tack moving across the line in spectacular fashion with bodies stretched out on the trapeze.  As the race progressed around the first triangle the wind moderated so much so that the course was shortened. At the back end of the fleet with the wind dropping off four of the ten starters decided to pull out - three CSC boats and one MMYC boat.

Overall, MMYC did very well with the stand out being Derek Haagsma on his Castle 650 Veterans Affair.  Derek in the first 6 months of owning his new boat has been in top form with this well set up vessel.

The pictures of the race and the cruise down to Carrum are courtesy of Matthew Anderson who was out giving his new motor cruiser a run. His efforts are appreciated even though he has gone across to the "dark side" of boating! Hopefully we'll see him back sailing as a crew on the on the new Bawron Fourteen when it begins to compete in the summer series.
 
We have one more CSC race scheduled 22/8/10 and we expect MMYC to assemble a competitive fleet for the race.   Coming up on 8/8/2010 is the last of the MMYC winter races off Mordi.
