Feeding Frenzy

White Water

Following the usual chat around the barbie on Saturday a number of members decided to head out and make the most of the great conditions on offer. Bonito's Treasure, Moondancer, Nina and Siobhan were soon rigged up and making their way down the creek ready for a run to who knows where!

But on exiting the creek everyone was presented with a horizon full of screaming gulls and patches of white water on the move down in the direction of Carrum. A huge school of Bait Fish were apparently being attacked by an equally large school of Salmon. A number of fishermen were already pulling fish on board and our curious members wandered about the edges of the action for a while - it really was quite spectacular.

Peter on Moondancer and Michael on Bonito's Treasure however soon had their sails aloft and were heading south. But aboard Siobhan John has decided that the sailing could wait and he'd found his rod and an early model fishing lure he'd had stashed below and was trawling back and forth amongst the chaos. It looked like you could just reach over the side and pick up a salmon but as everyone found, you could only hook the odd one as things were so wild.

Salmon Cleaning

John decided after he'd pulled in two good size fish, that he'd head back and on his way he handed his rod and lure to Peter and Mic who'd just arrived. Not sure how they faired? David and Bill heard the news back on the Island and even an hour after we'd first discovered the spectical, there was still plenty of action They arrived back some time later with a number of fish and a job ahead of them filleting their catch.
