Underway in 2010

January 15, 2010

For our first Twilight Event of 2010 we had eight boats head out, with one not finishing.  The race started in a fresh Southerly wind shifting to the south east and a very chopy sea. The course was out to the number 2 buoy east of the pier and the conditions made for brisk and exciting sailing. First on handicap was Matthew Hubbard and crew in Just Mist. We had Peter Mosbey sailing in his newly purchased 2nd boat Blue Shadow, a Sunmaid 20. Looks like Peter is continuing on his tradition of being a fleet owner !

The boat that didn't finish the event is a story in itself - Peter Sutton's Ruff Cut. Just before the start of the race Peter had the keel cable snap which meant that the keel was in a stay down position. With the ebbing tide there was no chance he would get back into the creek so Peter and crew headed for Sandringham. You could say they won this leg of the race! They made it back for the BBQ via land and Peter will make the repairs at Sandy over the next few days.

With half the season nearing the Michael Oakley series continues to be a successful event and most importantly, an event for skippers and crew to have fun and compete in a relaxed manner.  So we'd encourage any skipper who hasn't ventured out in a Michael Oakley to join in the fun.

Results of the evening can be seen here.
