Tips on Safety
Just on 50 members attended the General Meeting on Tuesday night at the clubrooms. Following the short meeting of club business, a presentation on Boat Safety was conducted by three senior club members. Peter Banham introduced the lecture by running a Safety Video presentation which outlined preparation for outings and trips, essential safety items along with the responsibilities of skippers. Commodore Bob Hollingsworth then listed some additional points from a Power Boat perspective and this was followed by some Sailing Safety tips presented by David Moate.
One of the more interesting pieces of information from David’s presentation was how to find a person who may have gone overboard in the dark. A simple system developed years ago and taught to the military was outlined and it was suggested that we may like to practice this method in daylight next time we’re on the water. However throwing the wife or another crew member overboard for the exercise was discouraged!
For both old hands and newcomers there was quite a number of points that could be taken away from the meeting and put into practice. We’d like to thank our three presenters and we look forward to a good member attendance again for future special presentations. You’ll see more about these here on the Website.
