Lucky Escape

June 02, 2009

The operator of an excavator had a lucky escape on Monday when the machine toppled into the creek from the barge on which it was operating. David from Bluey's Hire Boats was quick off the mark, stripping down and diving in the creek to assist the trapped operator until emergency crews arrived. The shaken operator was said to be OK. The excavator was being used to position mooring poles along the hotel side of the creek when it overbalanced and toppled from the barge. David now dried off can be seen (below) being interviewed by a TV news crew a few hours later.

TUESDAY - Barriers have been set up around the submerged excavator and also between the main slipway entrance and Alluntt's jettys. Skippers should be aware that access to and from their moorings will be restricted while investigation and recovery operations are under way.

And late Tuesday a photo of the excavator being lifted was sent through.
