MO Trophy Race 1

October 31, 2009

It was a an absolutely beautiful night for the first of our Michael Oakley events. I went out with Michael Montgomery and his friend Charlie aboard Solitaire. As we were going through the entrance we struck trouble. It was low tide and the entrance very shallow and as we hit the sand bar we attemped to lift the keel higher only to find out that the battery we had was now flat. Mark and Jenny on Silvercloud saved the day and delivered us a spare from my boat. In any case apart from a late start it was a very quick race.

Derek (Blue Dolphin) won the race, with John, Mario and Lorraine (Pelican) coming in only 19 seconds behind. If only they had crossed the line on time !! All the boats returned within about 15 minutes of each other with the exception of Peter Banham (Moondancer)who continued on out to sea after going through the finish line.

Once back at the club John got busy with cooking the BBQ. Not only did he cook the barbie - but as you can see he cleaned up as well !

Another item of interest on the night was Peter and Kim Cummins who were heading out for a spin and also struck trouble on the same sand bar. When they started taking on water they came back in and moored in the slipway waiting for water in order to get on the slip. When we returned from sailing everyone was required on the rear of his boat to get him sitting on the cradle. Once up he realised it wasnt as bad as he first thought. He returned to his mooring.
